AMD launched several new Second-Generation AMD Opteron™ processors.
AMD Opteron processor Models 8224 SE and 2224 SE operate at 3.2GHz (120W) and are intended for customers who want the absolute highest dual-core performance. Models 8222 and 2222, operating at 3.0GHz (95W), and Model 1222 operating at 3.0GHz (103W) are standard power parts that improve performance for mainstream server and workstation computing users. These processors are immediately available from AMD solution provider partners around the world.

See how DDR2 memory stacks up against FBDIMM in this new power efficiency benchmark
AnandTech published a new review of the AMD Opteron™ processors operating at 3.2GHz (120W) and 3.0GHz (95W) compared to Intel processors. The review concludes that AMD Opteron processors with DDR2 compare favorably, and a few key takeaways from this third-party evaluation are that FBDIMM memory has less bandwidth and higher latency and runs much hotter than DDR2.

New IBM/SAP benchmark
In today's cutthroat business world, it pays to have an advantage. IBM SWG has just published a very impressive SAP 2-tier SD benchmark result on AMD Opteron processor-based IBM System x3755 running VMware VI3 2VCPU. The result of 445 SD users on the IBM System x3755 DB2 9 powered by AMD Opteron processors is the Best 2 core VM result published thus far. It beats the Intel Quad-Core benchmark by more than 10% and shows the advantage of AMD in a virtualized environment.
