ANOTHER Great Win for AMD and IBM!

Revolutionary Hybrid Supercomputer at Los Alamos National Laboratory Will Harness Cell Game Chips and AMD Opteron™ Processor Technology

On September 8, 2006, IBM announced that they had been awarded a very large contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to build a 1.6 petaflop hybrid supercomputer for the Los Alamos National Laboratory by the end of 2007 or early 2008. This supercomputer, codenamed Roadrunner, is expected to be the fastest supercomputer in the world when completed. Roadrunner has been referred to as "hybrid processor architecture" because it will be based on AMD Opteron™ processors and IBM's Cell PowerPC processors.
